On 4 August 2020, the Hindi daily Amar Ujala reported that demand for two-wheelers in Ghaziabad had grown during the Covid-19 pandemic. As offices reopened after the lockdown, many working people chose to travel on their own vehicles instead of buses, cabs or the Metro, which was still closed at the time.
What the report found.
District sales: figures from the RTO office showed 4,488 two-wheelers sold in Ghaziabad between April and June 2020, including 3,827 in June alone.
Lockdown effect: the district was under lockdown through April and until mid-May, so some customers who had booked earlier could not take delivery in April.
Cars: car sales were also recovering, with more than 2,200 cars sold in two months, against about 2,700 in June and July the year before.
What Shiva Bajaj Group said.
Amit Garg, named in the report as Director of Shiva Bajaj Group, told the paper that working people were buying more two-wheelers and that sales had returned to the previous year’s level. He said the group was selling 450 to 500 two-wheelers.
